Air Conditioning - HVAC:

They literally rescued me.  My a/c unit was crashing just when I was expecting visitors.  This happened on a Friday.  We set up a date for the following week but to keep my house going until the date, Gary sent a couple of his employees to put in a used condenser to hold us.  And, that it did.  My new Trane a/c was put in the following week.  It is the best thing that could have happened to us.  I never knew how my "old" a/c was struggling to keep us cool.  My bills are now lower and my house is much more comfortable, so much so that I actually sometimes forget that it is summer in Vegas..... When the weather got hot in the June of 2015, my Air Conditioning unit quit working.  I call them and they came out the next day.  The diagnosed the problem and made a temporary fix so that they house could be cool until the new parts arrived.  They also let me know that the new parts may be covered under the manufacturer warranty.  A couple of days later they installed the new parts and we were cool all summer.  The parts were all covered by warranty and I had purchased the unit from another dealer who had gone out of business.  When it started getting cold in the fall the furnace did not work.  They came right out and got it running as well.  Their team is very professional, and my wife Raquel and I highly recommend them.  Check them out at www.airforlessvegas.com, you will be glad you did.  They are the very best.  Paul and Raquel Lightfoot (224-230-5737)

  Cabinet Repair and Refinishing:

Paul came over and gave us an estimate, pointing out that the cabinets themselves were in fine shape. Most of the doors were in decent shape, as well, except fornthe finish on a few of them, especially in the kitchen.  We went with a one-day tune-up: deep cleaning, worn spots repaired, finish applied.  We also had the hinges replaced with an all metal hinge, not the ones with the plastic sleeve that seem to break when you look at them cross-eyed.  BTW, Paul didn't push that since our hinges were all ok, but rather we asked if he had them available and asked him to replace most of them. The tune-up results are very satisfactory.  The cabinets look great.  The cost was about 1/10th our original budget.  The work was done in one day by Cesare, who was so non-intrusive. Strongly recommend their work.)

Laminate is very easy to keep clean -- damp mop with water and a little vinegar/carpeting starts depreciating immediately and becomes worthless over time/laminate holds value and appreciates with time. It’s more expensive than carpeting/ figure $45 per sq. yd. plus a lot of extra charges -- baseboards, repainting, etc. but worth it. Buy commercial grade 12 mm, 25 Yr. warranty, don't buy laminate with underlayment already attached to laminate/ buy separate underlayment -- allows laminate to fit better on uneven slab, softer to walk on, quieter. Re-set approx. 75 loose tiles & re-caulked all vents on roof. Cleaned out some gutters. We painted all areas that we put black tar on tiles & vents. Materials & labor

Plumbing, Hot Water Heater: Anyone who is replacing a gas water heater should also have the special aluminum pan installed under the water heater to capture any leaking water and redirect it onto the garage floor and away from the house. The pan costs about $20 to $25 at Lowe's or Home Depot and is about 3" deep with a hole cut at the top into which a PVC tube is attached and extends to the garage floor.   Plumbing – Instant Hot Water I have the Grundfos hot water recirculating pump and have found that it  was costing me about $25 per month to keep it on 24/7 -- not good! What I did was to use one of those remote control devices that you use to turn on your outside Christmas lights from inside your house. When I want hot water quickly in my farthest bathroom, I turn it on and have very hot water there in 8 seconds!
